The full form of IMU is Indian Maritime University.  Indian Maritime University is a central university that deals with a wide range of courses related to the ocean and sea, starting from Oceanography and Maritime History and Law. These subjects and courses are not just taught in theory, but practical classes are imparted as well. Practical teaching is imparted on search and rescue operations, including how to handle dangerous goods during the time of import and export, environmental fields and other relative fields. The university plays a very important role in the development of trained human resources in the maritime sector. Indian Maritime University - Chennai Campus, previously known as National Maritime Academy. It was established by the Indian Maritime University Act 2008, on 14 November 2008. It has an All-India jurisdiction and the headquarters is at Chennai. It has six campuses in Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai Port, Navi Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam.

It is conducted by Indian Maritime University for admission of the suitable candidates to Undergraduate (except BBA), Post Graduate and Research programmes. IMU CET is a national level entrance test organized once in every year. The admission is offered to the candidates qualifying this All India Common entrance test in Marine engineering field. Admission will be provided in five campuses located in Cochin, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Vishakhapatnam. The exam will take place in the online mode.
